The 30th Anniversary edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz kicked off, on October 6, 2023. As an exciting highlight of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, this year's NSMQ is being hosted in two distinct regions: KNUST in Kumasi and the National Theatre in Accra. This historic occurrence represents the first time the National Championship spans across two regions. KNUST serves as the venue for the Preliminary four stages of the competition, with the Grand Finale scheduled to captivate audiences at the National Theatre.
Holy Child School failed to beat Achimota School to the Quarter-finals
At 12:20 p.m., the contestants took their seats, and the quiz mistress, Dr. Anita Oppong, started the competition at 12:35 p.m., by introducing the participants. Achimota School, a two-time champion, had faced challenges in maintaining its top form since finishing as runners-up in 2009. Yet, with newfound dedication, discipline, and hard work, they comfortably beat Notre Dame Girls and St. Francis Girls during the Prelims Stage.
Conversely, HOLYCO narrowly lost to Wesley Grammar by three points during the Prelims, which presented a fortunate opportunity for their qualification to the One-eighth Stage.
By the end of Rounds One and Two, Achimota School had established a commanding lead with 38 points, while Holy Child School and Assin State College trailed behind with 19 and 13 points respectively.
