NSMQ 2026: St. Hubert Sem. SHS, Kumasi Academy and SDA SHS, Agona progress to National Championship

The Ashanti Regional Qualifiers continued on Sunday, July 26, 2026 with three contests won by St. Hubert Sem. SHS, Kumasi Academy and SDA SHS, Agona. Due to some last-minute withdrawals, Contests Six and Seven took place before contest five, to ensure the minimum of three schools in each contest.

St. Hubert edge Afua Kobi Ampem and Toase SHS in high-scoring Contest Six

St. Hubert Min. Sem. SHS (SAHUSS) won the first contest of Day Two with 56 points, beating Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS’s 50 points and Toase SHS’s 33 points.

At the end of the first round, Afua Kobi Ampem SHS led narrowly with 22 points, while Toase SHS and SAHUSS followed closely with 21 and 20 points respectively. At the end of the Speed Race, however, SAHUSS had overtaken the other schools, establishing a lead with 34 points against Afua Kobi Ampem’s 28 points and Toase SHS’s 20 points. 

With 50 points and a 14-point lead at the end of the third round, SAHUSS were wary of Afua Kobi Ampem’s 44 points. By the end of the contest, Toase SHS could not improve on their third round scores of 33 points. SAHUSS and Afua Kobi Ampem Girls' SHS each answered two riddles correctly to end with 56 and 50 points respectively.

Kumasi Academy win with 30-pt gap against Fomena T. I. AMASS, Ejisu SHTS in Contest Seven

Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) set a high standard in the day’s second contest, garnering an incredible 63 points and winning the first GOIL Riddle Bonanza of the Regional Qualifiers with four out of four riddles answered. Ejisu SHTS managed 33 points against the KUMACA wave, while Fomena, T. I. AMASS ended the contest with 20 points.

SDA SHS, Agona pull through despite Adventist SHS, Bantama Riddle Bonanza and Tie-breaker scare in Contest Five

After late withdrawals, two of the day’s Top Runners-up were invited to join Contest Five. Toase SHS and Ejisu SHTS took advantage of this second chance, in a bid to improve their chances of qualifying. With 31 points and 29 points respectively, Toase SHS and Ejisu SHTS fell short against SDA SHS, Agona and Adventist SHS, Bantama.

SDA SHS, Agona won the tie-breaker in the end.

After four rounds, Adventist SHS, Bantama forced the contest into a tie-breaker by answering 3/4 riddles and earning a GOIL Riddle Bonanza prize worth 400 cedis. Although both schools ended the contest with 32 points, SDA SHS, Agona answered the tie-breaker correctly and qualified for the National Championship.
