Western Regional/Zonal Championship: Archbishop Porter Girls’, SEKCO and GSTS Secure Final Spots

The first contest in the Western Regional/Zonal Championship featured Archbishop Porter Girls’, Amenfiman SHS, Shama SHS and Sefwi Wiaso SHS. At the end of the opening round, Amenfiman SHS and Shama SHS were tied at 19 points, closely followed by Archbishop Porter Girls’ with 16 points, while Sefwi SHS trailed with seven points.


Round Two saw a shift in momentum as Archbishop Porter Girls’ surged ahead with 22 points. Amenfiman SHS followed with 21 points, Shama SHS maintained 19, and Sefwi Wiawso dropped further to six points.


The True or False round in Round Three brought a twist. Amenfiman SHS staged an impressive comeback to lead the round with 39 points. However, in the final round, Archbishop Porter Girls’ reclaimed dominance and secured a spot in the Championship final with a total of 47 points.


 The second contest of the day featured Sekondi College, St. Joseph's SHS, St. John's School and St. Mary's Boys' SHS. At the end of Round One, Sekondi College took an early lead with 16 points. St. John's School and St. Mary's Boys' SHS were level on 13 points each, while St. Joseph's SHS followed with nine.

In Round Two, Sekondi College extended their lead to 23 points. St. John's School and St. Mary's Boys’ SHS experienced a dip, with both schools holding on to 13 and 12 points respectively. St. Joseph's SHS remained unchanged with nine points.

Round Three brought a wave of renewed energy. Sekondi College surged to 36 points, maintaining their lead. St. Mary's Boys' SHS picked up momentum to overtake St. John's School with 28 points, while St. John's School trailed slightly with 26. St. Joseph's SHS improved modestly to 13.

In the final round, Sekondi College sealed their dominance with a final score of 40 points, securing a place in the Championship final. St. John's School finished with 30 points, St. Mary's Boys’ SHS followed closely with 28, and St. Joseph’s SHS ended with 13. Great SEKCO knocked out the reigning champions in a stunning upset.

 

In the third and final contest of the day, Juaboso SHS, Tarkwa SHS and Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) battled it out in a fiercely contested match. By the end of Round Two, GSTS had taken a comfortable lead with 32 points. Tarkwa SHS followed with 19 points, while Juaboso SHS struggled with -1.

Round Three saw GSTS extending their lead to 42 points, while Tarkwa SHS improved slightly to 23 points. Juaboso SHS, unfortunately, dropped further to -2.

With consistent performance throughout the contest, GSTS secured victory with a final score of 42 points, booking their place in the Championship final. Tarkwa SHS finished with 32 points, and Juaboso SHS concluded the contest on -2.
