NSMQ 2024: Mpraeso SHS Defeats Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS, Secures Quarter-final Spot!

The road has ended for Mfantsiman Girls' SHS and Anlo SHS in the ongoing National Science & Maths Quiz after Mpraeso SHS won the final contest of Day One at the SGS Auditorium with 35 points. Anlo SHS followed closely with 31 points, while Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS finished with 27 points.

The atmosphere in the auditorium was tense as the three competing schools took their seats on stage for the last contest of the day. The Quiz Mistress, Dr Mrs Gladys Odey Schwinger, welcomed the schools with her usual question about their journey to the One-eighth Stage and what they hoped to achieve at the end of the contest.

All three schools shared that their journey had not been smooth, as they encountered several challenges and faced tough competition from other schools. However, they remained hopeful, trusting that by the grace of God, they would progress to the next stage of the competition.

In the first round, Mpraeso SHS, Mfantsiman Girls' SHS, and Anlo SHS battled fiercely to take the lead. Despite the efforts of all three schools, it was Mpraeso SHS who emerged ahead at the end of the round.

The Prudential Insurance Speed Race round proved difficult for the schools, with many losing points rather than gaining them. Despite their best efforts to increase their scores, most of their attempts were in vain as they struggled to provide correct answers.

As seen throughout the competition, the "Problem of the Day" lived up to its name. The highest score from the round was a mere three points, achieved by Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS, who still remained at the bottom of the leader board.

The Jupay Money Transfer True/ False round saw a heated atmosphere, with cheers from supporters of all three schools. Mpraeso SHS worked hard to maintain their top position, while Anlo SHS aimed to close the gap, as the point difference was minimal by the end of the third round.

The fifth and final round, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, saw a competition mainly between Anlo SHS and Mfantsiman Girls' SHS. Mpraeso SHS, having already secured their lead, chose not to attempt any of the riddles At the end of the contest, Mpraeso SHS emerged as winners and secured a spot at the Quarter-finals.
