Prempeh College has also qualified for the grand finale of this year’s National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ). The four-time winner of the national championship beat Opoku Ware School and KNUST SHS, all Kumasi-based schools, with 67 points to qualify for the finals. Opoku Ware School scored 59 points whilst KNUST SHS also got 38 points at the end of the five-round contest. Prempeh College won the NSMQ first in 1994 before winning it in 1996, 2015, and 2017. Apart from the Legon-based Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School that has won the contest six times, it is Prempeh College that places second to PRESEC in terms of laurels in the NSMQ championship.
The journey so far
Prempeh College secured a slot in the semi-final stage of the competition after a victory over Sogakope SHS and Anglican SHS in their quarter-final stage contest on November 21. Prempeh College secured 67 points at the end of the contest with Sogakope SHS and Anglican SHS earning 30 points and 24 points respectively. Before then, they qualified to the quarter-final stage by beating Tema Methodist SHS and Nkoranza SHTS with a significant point difference.
