NSMQ 2026: Adiembra SHS, Kumasi Academy, St John’s Grammer and Boa Amponsem SHS Battle Through Preliminary Stage!

The battle for progression into the One-eighth Stage of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), National Championship, intensified with dramatic comebacks and commanding performances.
Moderated by Dr. Thelma Ohene-Adjei, Adiembra SHS stunned T.I. AMASS Kumasi with a last-round victory, Kumasi Academy fought back from an early deficit, while St John’s Grammar School and Boa Amponsem SHS dominated their respective contests to emerge victorious in four fiercely-contested Preliminary Stage contests.

Adiembra SHS Beats T.I. AMASS and Presec, Bechem to Qualify for One-eighth Stage
Adiembra SHS defeated T.I. AMASS, Kumasi, and Presec, Bechem in a closely contested battle to secure a place in the One-eighth Stage. T.I. AMASS, Kumasi, made the stronger start in Round One, taking the lead with 23 points. Adiembra SHS followed with 17 points, while Presec, Bechem scored 13 points.
Adiembra began to close the gap in the Trustur AI Speed Race, adding 13 points to score 30 points. T.I. AMASS, Kumasi, also increased its tally to 32 points, while Presec, Bechem remained on 13.
In Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star – Problem of the Day, T.I. AMASS added four points to reach 36, while Adiembra scored three to move to 33. Presec, Bechem also added three points, taking its tally to 16.
By Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round, T.I. AMASS still held the lead with 46 points, but Adiembra was close behind on 43. Presec, Bechem had 26.
The GOIL Riddle Bonanza proved decisive, as Adiembra answered three of the four riddles correctly to surge to 54 points and overtake T.I. AMASS. The victory secured Adiembra’s place in the One-eighth Stage and earned the school the GH₵800 GOIL Riddle Bonanza prize. T.I. AMASS, Kumasi, had 46 points, while Presec, Bechem had 29.

St. John’s Grammar School Dominates from Start to Finish
St. John’s Grammar School delivered a commanding performance from start to finish, comfortably overcoming Zion College and St. Mary’s Seminary SHS in a one-sided Preliminary Stage contest.
St. John’s Grammar set the pace in Round One, scoring 25 points. Zion College followed with 13, while St. Mary’s Seminary SHS had seven points.
The gap widened in the Trustur AI Speed Race, as St. John’s Grammar displayed impressive speed and accuracy to add 13 points and surge to 38. Zion College moved to 12, while St. Mary’s Seminary SHS had three points.
St. John’s Grammar maintained its dominance in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star – Problem of the Day, adding nine points to reach 47. Zion College moved to 17 points, while St. Mary’s Seminary SHS reached five points.
The school extended its lead further in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round, reaching 54 points. Zion College advanced to 33, while St. Mary’s Seminary SHS moved to 15.
St. John’s Grammar remained in control in the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, completing the contest with an impressive 60 points. The dominant performance also earned the school the GH₵1,000 Pepsodent Highest Scorer Award. Zion College followed closely with 36 points, while St. Mary’s Seminary SHS remained on 15 points.

Kumasi Academy Turns Early Deficit into Victory
Kumasi Academy staged a strong turnaround against Hohoe E.P. Senior High School and Bueman Senior High School, recovering from an early deficit to secure victory.
Hohoe E.P. SHS took the lead in Round One with 22 points, followed by Kumasi Academy with 20 and Bueman SHS with 18. Kumasi Academy shifted the momentum in the Trustur AI Speed Race, moving to 26 points, while Bueman advanced to 25 and Hohoe E.P. SHS had 18 points.
Kumasi Academy strengthened its position in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star – Problem of the Day, adding seven points to reach 33. Bueman SHS scored 26 points, while Hohoe E.P. SHS scored 23 points.
Kumasi Academy extended its lead further in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round, surging to 46 points and taking firm control of the contest.
At the end of the contest, Kumasi Academy completed its comeback in style in the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, answering all four riddles correctly to surge to 58 points and seal victory. The perfect round also earned the school the GH₵1,200 GOIL Riddle Bonanza prize. Bueman SHS had 39 points, while Hohoe E.P. SHS placed third with 27 points.

Boa Amponsem Cruises to Victory
Boa Amponsem Senior High School delivered a commanding performance to overcome Berekum Senior High School and Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School.
Boa Amponsem SHS took an early lead in Round One with 26 points, ahead of Berekum SHS on 20 and Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS on 12.
The school extended its advantage in the Trustur AI Speed Race, moving to 31 points, while Berekum SHS had 17 and Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS 13.
Boa Amponsem added eight points in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star – Problem of the Day, to reach 39, before widening the gap further in the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round, where it surged to 52 points.
Boa Amponsem SHS maintained its advantage in the final round to secure victory with 55 points. Berekum SHS followed with 30 points, narrowly ahead of Bolgatanga Girls’ SHS, who had 29 points.
