In the One-eighth stage of the National Science & Maths Quiz, 2023, the second group of schools to compete at the Saarah- Mensah Auditorium comprised Osei Kyeretwie SHS, St. Joseph Seminary SHS, and Notre-Dame Girls’. Osei Kyeretwie SHS is among the seeded schools joining the competition at the One-eighth Stage, following their impressive run last year. Notre Dame Girls came into the One-eighth with an honorable loss to Achimota school, earning them a space in the runners-up. As the contest came to a climax, Osei Kyeretwie SHS, obtained an overarching score of 49 points and triumphed to the Quarter-finals Stage.
The 30th Anniversary edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz kicked off, on October 6, 2023. As an exciting highlight of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, this year's NSMQ is being hosted in two distinct regions: KNUST in Kumasi and the National Theatre in Accra. This historic occurrence represents the first time the National Championship spans across two regions. KNUST serves as the venue for the Preliminary four stages of the competition, with the Grand Finale scheduled to captivate audiences at the National Theatre.
Osei Kyeretwie SHS victoriously captured the scene by fully securing a high score and maintaining heights above their contenders. OKESS is the 4th school to qualify for the quarter-finals stage in this year's NSMQ contest, they steadfastly maintained their grounds in the seeded contest.
The contestants were seated at exactly 12:30 pm, and addressed by the Quiz mistress Dr. Thelma Ohene-Agyei of Saarah-Mensah Auditorium at 12:50 pm prompt, exchanging pleasantries with contestants and also spelling out the details of the day’s contest. St. Joseph Sem. SHS is represented by Philemon and Asamoah, Notre Dame Girls School, Desiree, and Eugenia, and finally, Osei Kyeretwie SHS is represented by Richmond and Austin.
The first round started with St. Joseph Sem SHS answering a preamble question, in which they answered faultlessly above their competitors, the first pace of the contest showcased Osei Kyeretwie SHS's in-depth knowledge and capabilities with a running score of 19 points having a four-point gap against St. Joseph Sem. SHS, and a nine-point margin ahead of Notre Dame Girls SHS.
In the second round, all three schools answered their questions perfectly, Osei Kyeretwie SHS had 30 points, and St. Joseph Sem. SHS served as a mediator between the two schools obtaining a score of 12 points, whilst Notre Dame school symbolised the snail figure in the contest with five points.
To arm up for the problem of the Day, Notre Dame Girls SHS, substituted Desiree for Judie, whereas Osei Kyeretwie SHS, replaced Williams with Richmond. The Problem of the Day was a Chemistry question where Osei Kyeretwie SHS obtained three (3) points, St. Joseph Sem. SHS had four (4) points and Notre Dame Girls' SHS topped earning six (6) points.
Concluding the final round in the contest, Osei Kyeretwie SHS succeeded with a magnificent score of 49 points which granted them a position in the quarter-finals stage.
