NSMQ 2026: DAVID VS TWO GOLIATHS! ACCRA ACADEMY CHASES HISTORY, AUGUSCO SEEKS A THIRD TITLE & PRESEC HUNTS FOR NUMBER NINE!
The stage is set for the 2026 NSMQ Grand Finale, and three schools are ready to battle for the coveted trophy. For Accra Academy, it is a historic first appearance at the Grand Finale. St. Augustine’s College, two-time champions, are making their third appearance and hoping that the third time will bring another taste of victory. Meanwhile, eight-time champions Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) are back with their eyes firmly set on a ninth title.
On September 10, 2026, one of the three schools will be crowned champion.
In conversations with the NSMQ Communications Team, contestants from the three finalists reflected on their journeys to the Grand Finale, the lessons they have learnt along the way and their expectations for the decisive contest.
AUGUSCO: Third Time’s the Charm
For St. Augustine’s College, the road to the Grand Finale has been one of preparation, resilience and growing confidence. Reflecting on the team’s experience, Yawson King Afedzie said the team remains confident despite competing away from its usual home environment.
“We might not be in Cape Coast, but our support in Accra is even more than the support we get back home. We are not going back home empty-handed.”
His teammate, Amos Enninful, was equally confident, emphasising that the team is ready in every way for the final contest. The team, he said, is mentally, physically and spiritually prepared to return to Cape Coast as champions. With two previous titles under their belt, AUGUSCO will be hoping their experience can once again work in their favour as they seek to add another championship to their record.
Accra Academy: David Ready to Face the Goliaths
For first-time finalists Accra Academy, reaching the Grand Finale is already a historic achievement. But the “Bl3oo” boys are not satisfied with simply making history; they want to finish the job.
Describing themselves as David going up against two Goliaths, the team is embracing the challenge of facing two schools with multiple championship titles. Joseph Opoku Madu spoke about the lessons they have learnt throughout the competition, particularly the mistakes they made at the One-eighth and Quarter-final Stages.
For Joshua Nii Akwei Addo, their journey reflects the meaning behind the team’s name, “Bl3oo”. He explained that they have approached the competition one step at a time, steadily working towards their ultimate destination. Their determination has also received a boost from alumnus Nat Kwabena Anokye-Adisi, popularly known as Bola Ray, CEO of EIB Network, who presented the team with GH₵10,000 as motivation ahead of the Grand Finale.
Now, with their historic debut secured, the Accra Academy team is ready to take on the giants and fight for a maiden NSMQ title.
PRESEC-Legon: Chasing Number Nine
Then there is PRESEC-Legon, the most successful school in NSMQ history, with eight national titles already to its name. After missing the Grand Finale in 2024 and 2025, the PRESEC team has returned with one clear objective: to reclaim the trophy and extend its record to nine titles.
Contestant, Jason Antwi-Agyei said the team is ready to make another mark in NSMQ history. They have returned, he explained, to continue their winning streak and are prepared to break another record on the Grand Finale stage. For PRESEC, the challenge is not simply to win another trophy. It is an opportunity to strengthen a legacy that has been built over decades.
One Trophy, Three Dreams! At exactly 3:00 p.m. today, September 10, 2026, the three schools will meet at the University of Ghana Dome for the final battle.
