The highly anticipated One-eighth Stage of the 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) kicked off with an intense contest between Tamale SHS, Benkum SHS, and Chemu SHS. Tamale SHS, famously known as the "Lions," roared to victory with 46 points, securing their spot in the Quarter-final Stage.
The Quiz Mistress Dr. Anita Oppong set the tone of the competition by asking each team about their expectations. Benkum SHS, full of confidence, declared, "We’re here by the grace of God." Tamale SHS, determined to make a mark, replied, "Insha Allah, we will make a name for ourselves." Chemu SHS, reflecting on their challenging journey, humbly thanked Allah for bringing them this far.
The Round One was calm yet competitive, with Benkum SHS and Tamale SHS locked in a tight race, both ending the round with 13 points. Chemu SHS, however, left behind, managing only two points.
The Round Two of the ‘Prudential Life Speed Race’ saw a shift in momentum. While Tamale SHS steadily moved ahead with 23 points, Benkum SHS struggled, dropping to seven points after multiple wrong answers. Chemu SHS, though still behind, inched forward with four points.
The Problem of the Day—a mathematics question—proved to be a significant hurdle. Benkum SHS failed to solve it, leaving them with no points for the round. Tamale SHS and Chemu SHS, however, managed to secure four points each for partially solving the problem, adding to their respective totals.
In the ‘Jupay Money Transfer True or False Round’, Benkum SHS launched a fierce comeback, answering all questions correctly and gaining an impressive 16 points. However, Tamale SHS maintained their lead, adding 13 points to their score. Chemu SHS also made strides, securing 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to their competitors.
As the contest came to a close, Tamale SHS emerged victorious with an outstanding 46 points, booking their spot in the Quarter-final Stage. Benkum SHS finished with 30 points, while Chemu SHS with 18 points. Despite their defeat, both Benkum SHS and Chemu SHS can take pride in their journey through the competition.
Tamale SHS, entering the One-eighth Stage as a seeded school, did not only maintain their seed but also demonstrated their determination to stay ahead in the competition.
