Perfect 10! St. Augustine’s College Storms into Semi-final Stage with GH₵5,440 Prize Haul

Last year’s finalists, St. Augustine’s College have once again proven their mettle by booking a spot in the Semi-final Stage of the National Championship, after an impressive performance that earned them a total cash prize of GH₵5,440.

The first contest of the Quarter-final Stage, which featured St. Augustine’s College, St. John’s School, and Abetifi Presby SHS, began with an electrifying jama face-off between the supporters of St. Augustine’s College and St. John’s School. The atmosphere in the auditorium was charged with excitement even before the quiz mistress announced the Round One results.

At the end of the first round, St. Augustine’s College led with 13 points, while St. John’s School and Abetifi Presby SHS tied with 10 points each.

Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, tested the schools’ quick-thinking abilities. Despite the tricky nature of the questions, St. Augustine’s College managed to secure two additional points to bring their total to 15, while Abetifi Presby SHS gained three points to reach 13. St. John’s School, however, lost two marks, dropping to eight points.

The momentum shifted in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star (Problem of the Day) which featured a chemistry problem centred on environmental pollution and the release of sulphur dioxide. St. Augustine’s College dazzled with a perfect score of 10 out of 10, becoming the first school to achieve a perfect score at the Quarter-final Stage. Their exceptional performance earned them GH₵2,800 for the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Award. Abetifi Presby SHS scored one out of 10, while St. John’s School managed three out of 10.

Before Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True or False, all three schools made substitutions. St. Augustine’s College brought in Daniel for Harold, Abetifi Presby SHS replaced Ismael with Gilbert, and St. John’s School introduced Zebo for Gideon. Each team secured 10 points in this round, bringing the scores to 35 points for St. Augustine’s College, 24 points for Abetifi Presby SHS, and 21 points for St. John’s School.

Tension peaked in Round Five, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, where all three schools had a chance to overturn the results. Abetifi Presby SHS solved the first riddle on the third clue, but St. Augustine’s College quickly picked the second. Abetifi Presby SHS again claimed the third riddle, only for St. Augustine’s College to seal the victory by answering the fourth riddle correctly, cementing their lead and triumph.

In terms of cash prizes, Abetifi Presby SHS walked away with GH₵1,000 for solving two riddles under the GOIL Riddle Bonanza and GH₵840 from the Momo Money Zone, totalling GH₵1,840. St. John’s School received GH₵1,200 from the Momo Money Zone, while St. Augustine’s College earned GH₵1,000 from GOIL Riddle Bonanza, GH₵1,640 from the Momo Money Zone, and GH₵2,800 from the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Award, amounting to GH₵5,440.

With this emphatic victory, St. Augustine’s College advances to the Semi-final Stage of the National Championship.
