NSMQ 2026: Wesley High SHS, Bekwai Books One-eighth Slot!

The second contest at the Main Auditorium of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Preliminary Stage brought together Wesley High SHS, Bekwai, first-timers Esaase Bontefufuo SHTS (EBSTECH) and Techiman SHS in a closely contested battle.

The contest, held at the University of Cape Coast’s Main Auditorium, was moderated by Dr Anita Adjoa Oppong, as supporters filled the auditorium to cheer on their respective schools.

At the end of Round One, Wesley High SHS, Bekwai, scored 16 points, debutants EBSTECH scored 13 points, while Techiman SHS trailed behind with 11 points.

In Round Two of the Trustur AI Speed Race, Wesley High School, Bekwai, and Techiman SHS remained level on 20 points each, while Esaase Bontefufuo SHTS added 11 points to its tally. The scores kept the contest closely contested as the schools headed into the subsequent rounds.

The Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Problem of the Day in Round Three added another layer of tension to the contest, with the three schools battling to gain an advantage. The segment comes with a GH¢2,000 prize from Prudential Life Insurance for any school that records a perfect score of 10 points.

All three schools put up an impressive showing, recording scores of both eight and seven out of 10 points respectively. Wesley Senior High School, Bekwai, maintained a narrow lead over Techiman SHS, finishing the round with 28 points against Techiman’s 27. Esaase Bontefufuo SHTS followed on 19 points, leaving the contest finely poised heading into the next round.

The Jupay Money Transfer True/False in Round Four segment brought another twist to the contest, as contestants had to rely on both knowledge and careful judgment to navigate the series of statements. With only “True” or “False” as the possible answers, each decision carried the risk of either gaining valuable points or watching an opportunity slip away.

Wesley High School, Bekwai, continued to strengthen its position, climbing to 35 points at the end of the segment. Techiman SHS remained within reach with 31 points, while Esaase Bontefufuo SHTS recorded 23 points.

To close out the contest and secure their win in the GOIL RIDDLE BONANZA Round Five, Wesley High School Bekwai, added three points to finish with 38, Techiman SHS added seven points to close at 37, while Esaase Bontefufuo SHTS unfortunately did not finish up with any additional points, therefore they maintained their 23 points.

Although it was their first appearance at the National Championship, Esaase remain proud of how far they've come and hope to return next year.
