NSMQ 2026: Prempeh College Triumphs Over West Africa SHS and Kumasi Girls' SHS to Book Quarter-final Spot!

Main Auditorium - August 26, 2026 After a fiercely contested Preliminary Stage, the One-eighth Stage of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship got underway on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, with 27 seeded schools joining 54 Preliminary Stage qualifiers across 27 contests.

The first contest, held at the Main Auditorium of the University of Cape Coast and moderated by Quiz Mistress Dr. Anita Adjoa Oppong, brought together Prempeh College, West Africa Senior High School and Kumasi Girls' Senior High School, with only one school guaranteed a place in the Quarter-final Stage.

Prempeh College took the lead in Round One, scoring 23 points, while West Africa SHS followed with 13 and Kumasi Girls' SHS had seven. Prempeh College extended its lead in Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, reaching 46 points. West Africa SHS remained on 13 points, while Kumasi Girls' SHS dropped to six points.

The lead grew further in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star, Problem of the Day, as Prempeh College scored a perfect 10 out of 10 to reach 56 points and earn the GH₵2,400 NSMQ Star Prize. West Africa SHS added seven points to reach 20 points, while Kumasi Girls' SHS added three to move to nine points.

Prempeh College maintained its advantage in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False round, extending its total to 63 points. West Africa SHS moved to 27 points, while Kumasi Girls' SHS advanced to 16.

In Round Five, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, Prempeh College added three points to finish on 66 and secure its place in the Quarter-final Stage. West Africa SHS finished second with 30 points, while Kumasi Girls' SHS ended the contest with 19 points.
