The final contest of Day One of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) National Championship featured: Jachie Pramso SHS, Nalerigu SHS and Kumasi High School, with the three schools battling for a place in the One-eighth Stage.
The contest brought Day One to a close in a fiercely contested battle, as the three schools gave their all in pursuit of qualification. In the end, Kumasi High School emerged victorious, securing a place in the One-eighth Stage after overcoming Jachie Pramso SHS and Nalerigu SHS.

Kumasi High School, winners of the Regional Qualifiers, came into the contest with confidence and a clear determination to progress.
“We have practised, prepared and are here by His grace to win,” David Kirbur Tanko said.
Jachie Pramso SHS also returned to the National Championship after missing out last year, securing its place after emerging winners of the Regional Qualifiers. Nalerigu SHS, also winners of the Regional Qualifiers, expressed similar confidence about their chances of advancing.
“We have not come to do anything but to display what has been ordained before time,” Enock Laar said.

The contest, however, got off to a difficult start in Round One, with all three schools struggling to get a firm grasp of the questions. Kumasi High School nevertheless managed to establish an early lead with 14 points, followed by Jachie Pramso SHS with 11 points, while Nalerigu SHS ended the round with eight points.

The Truster AI Speed Race Round proved equally challenging, with the contestants repeatedly missing questions and drawing exclamations from supporters in the auditorium. However, Kumasi High School soon found their rhythm and swiftly answered a series of questions correctly to extend their score to 20 points. Nalerigu SHS added a point to reach 12, while Jachie Pramso SHS remained close behind on 11 points.

The Prudential Life Insurance (Problem of the Day) Round presented the contestants with a biology problem. Kumasi High School and Nalerigu SHS produced strong performances, each earning nine out of the available 10 points. Jachie Pramso SHS secured six points.
Kumasi High School maintained their advantage in the JuPay Money Transfer True or False Round, continuing to build on their lead as the contest entered its final stages.

The GOIL Riddle Bonanza Round provided another tense moment as all three schools missed the first riddle, sending sighs through the auditorium. Nalerigu SHS answered the second riddle correctly, before Kumasi High School got the third. Jachie Pramso SHS then answered the final riddle correctly.

At the end of the contest, Kumasi High School secured a well-deserved place in the One-eighth Stage with 45 points. Nalerigu SHS finished second with 34 points, while Jachie Pramso SHS bowed out of the competition with 30 points.
