NSMQ 2026: Four Victories, Four One-eighth Stage Tickets! Tema Sec. School, Tamale SHS, St. Francis Xavier Sem. and Wesley Girls’ High School Advance!

Day Two of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz Preliminary Stage produced a mix of dominant performances, close contests and promising comebacks as schools battled for progression in the National Championship. Dr. Anita Adjoa Oppong, elegantly styled in GTP, moderated the contest at the Main Auditorium of the University of Cape Coast.

Among the standout performers was Tamale SHS, who returned to the competition determined to rebuild their standing, after losing their seeded status at the One-eighth stage of the 2025 championship. Facing Kalpohin SHS and Wenchi Methodist SHS, Tamale controlled the contest from the opening round.

Tamale SHS dominated Round One before pulling further ahead in the Trustur AI Speed Race, where they moved to 37 points. Tamale maintained its advantage in the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star - Problem of the Day in Round Three, adding nine points to reach 46.


Their dominance continued in the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round Four, where Tamale SHS stretched its lead to 62 points and secured the GH₵500 Jupay Clean Sheet Prize after answering all the questions correctly.


Tamale SHS capped off a dominant performance in the GOIL Riddle Bonanza Round in Round Five, surging to 68 points to secure a comfortable victory over Kalpohin SHS, who had 41 points, and Wenchi Methodist SHS, who had 30. The victory gives Tamale SHS a strong start to reclaiming their lost seed.

The next contest featured St. Francis Xavier Jnr. Seminary, debutants Pentecost SHS, Koforidua, and Nana Brentu SHS.

St. Francis Xavier Jnr. Seminary took an early lead in Round One, scoring 18 points, Pentecost SHS scored 14 points while Nana Brentu SHS scored no point. St. Francis Xavier Jnr. Seminary took charge of Round Two in the Trustur AI Speed Race, upping their scores to 28 points as Pentecost SHS, Koforidua, scored on 14 points and Nana Brentu on scored no point.

The Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star – Problem of the Day in Round Three was quite a tight battle. Pentecost SHS scored nine out of ten points to move to 23, while St. Francis Xavier Jnr. Seminary scored seven to extend its tally to 35. Nana Brentu SHS also scored two points.


St. Francis Xavier Jnr. Seminary tightened its grip on the contest in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round, powering to 47 points. Pentecost SHS scored 25 points, while Nana Brentu SHS scored nine points.


St. Francis Xavier Jnr. Seminary secured victory with 56 points in the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, answering three riddles correctly to win the GH₵800 prize. Pentecost SHS had 25 points, while Nana Brentu SHS had 13 points.

The contest climaxed with Wesley Girls’ High School securing a place in the One-eighth Stage after a dominant Preliminary Stage performance against Simms SHS and Nkwatia Presby SHS.


Wesley Girls’ SHS took an early lead in Round One, scoring 13 points, before extending its advantage to 21 points in the Trustur AI Speed Race. Wesley Girls' High School in the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star – Problem of the Day, reaching 31 points and earning the GH₵2,000 NSMQ Star prize after scoring a perfect 10/10.


Wesley Girls’ SHS maintained its lead in the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round, surging to 47 points and securing the GH₵500 Clean Sheet prize. The school then answered all four riddles correctly in the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, adding another GH₵1,200 to its prize haul.


With GH₵3,700 in total prize winnings, Wesley Girls’ SHS completed a memorable return to the National Championship, securing its place in the One-eighth Stage with a commanding performance.
