NSMQ 2026: Amaniampong Defends Seed, Dominates Ghanata SHS and Tepa SHS to Reach Quarter-finals

The second contest of the final day of the One-eighth Stage of the National Championship brought 2025 Semi-finalist, Amaniampong Senior High School, Ghanata Senior High School and Tepa Senior High School together in a battle for a place in the Quarter-final Stage of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz.

Before the contest got underway, Quiz mistress Dr. Anita Adjoa Oppong had a brief and encouraging interaction with the contestants, helping to ease the tension and prepare the teams for the challenge ahead.

Amaniampong SHS entered the contest determined to defend the seeded status they earned for the first time last year. The school delivered a strong performance across the five rounds, holding off its opponents to retain its seed and secure another appearance in the Quarter-final Stage. In Round One, General Questions, Amaniampong SHS took an early lead with 22 points, followed by Tepa SHS on 15 points and Ghanata SHS on 14 points. Amaniampong SHS extended its advantage in Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, moving to 35 points. Tepa SHS followed with 20 points, while Ghanata SHS reached 15 points.

The lead widened further in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star, Problem of the Day. Amaniampong SHS added five points to reach 40 points, while Tepa SHS moved with 24 points after gaining four points. Ghanata SHS added three points to reach 18 points. Amaniampong SHS maintained its dominance in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False, increasing its score to 53 points. Tepa SHS recorded 37 points, while Ghanata SHS reached 28 points.

The final Round Five, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, confirmed Amaniampong SHS's victory. The school finished on 62 points, with Tepa SHS on 37 points and Ghanata SHS on 31 points.

Amaniampong SHS also won the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, earning GH¢1,200 for its performance in the round. The Round-by-Round Scores for this contest stood as follows: ROUND ONE: General Questions
