NSMQ 2026: 174 CONTENDERS READY, ONE TROPHY AWAITS!

The 2026 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) will be officially launched today, Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the GNAT Hall in Accra, at 3:00 p.m.
The event will set the stage for this year’s National Championship, which will see 174 schools battle for the coveted title of National Science & Maths Quiz 2026 Champion, as well as the honour and bragging rights that come with it. The participating schools comprise 27 seeded schools, including one private school; four additional private schools; 107 Regional Qualifiers, including 10 schools making their debut at the National Championship; and 36 top runners-up.

Among the 107 Regional Qualifiers are the 10 debutants, namely Mansen SHS; Pentecost SHS, Koforidua; Bepong SHS; Namong SHTS; Dabala SHTS; Enyan Denkyira SHTS; T.I. AMASS, Wa; Nkawkaw SHS; Esaase Bontefufuo; and Jukwa SHTS. As they prepare to make their first appearance on the National Championship stage, we wish all 10 schools the very best as they embark on this new chapter of their NSMQ journey.
Meanwhile, a balloting exercise will be held during the launch to determine the placement of the participating schools in their respective pots and the schools they will face in the Preliminary Stage.

Following the balloting, the Preliminary Stage of the competition will commence on Thursday, August 20, and run through Monday, August 24, 2026. The One-eighth Stage will subsequently take place from Wednesday, August 26, to Friday, August 28, followed by the Quarter-final Stage from Sunday, August 30, to Tuesday, September 1. Thereafter, the qualifying schools will battle for places in the Semi-final Stage on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Following the semi-finals, the contestants will depart Cape Coast on Friday, September 4, ahead of the Grand Finale on Thursday, September 10, 2026, when the final three schools will compete for the ultimate prize in Accra.
With past champions seeking to defend their titles and new contenders eager to make their mark on the national stage, this year’s competition promises another thrilling display of brilliance, strategy and academic excellence.
Ultimately, only one school will emerge as champion. Which school will rise above the rest and lift the coveted NSMQ trophy?
