The stage is set, the buzzers are ready, and anticipation hangs thick in the Cape Coast air. The 2025 edition of the  National Science & Maths Quiz reaches its grand climax today, November 6, 2025, as Mfantsipim School, St. Augustine’s College, and Opoku Ware School lock horns in what promises to be the biggest academic showdown of the year.
This is a clash of legacies, a battle for dominance between coastal giants and an ambitious Ashanti powerhouse. Each finalist arrives with its own mission, defence, reclamation, and redemption, turning the Grand Finale into a story layered with history, hunger, and heart.

The Reigning Champions- Mfantsipim School

As the defending champions, Mfantsipim School enter the Grand Finale with a simple yet formidable agenda: to confirm their supremacy. Their journey through the championship has been one of efficiency, focus, and quiet confidence.
Their Semi-final victory over GSTS and Mankranso SHS reaffirmed their clinical precision; a school unfazed by pressure and fuelled by purpose. For Mfantsipim School, this finale is less about ambition and more about affirmation. They are the team to beat, the reigning Champions of the NSMQ, determined to ensure the trophy remains in Cape Coast, the heartland of academic prestige.
The Return of the Saints- St. Augustine’s College

From the same coastal stronghold emerges St. Augustine’s College, the 2024 finalists and two-time champions, on a mission of redemption. After a five-year title drought, the Saints have returned with renewed grit, shaped by last year’s heartbreak and strengthened by experience.
Their semi-final clash with Pope John SHS and Amaniampong SHS was a test of resilience, one that they passed with strategic precision. Their home-ground advantage in Cape Coast, coupled with their loyal fan base, gives them a psychological edge, one they are determined to convert into a triumphant finish.
The Third Time Trail -Opoku Ware School

In stark contrast to the coastal powerhouses stands Opoku Ware School, the pride of the Ashanti Region, carrying the weight of history and hope. Their contests have been nothing short of electrifying, highlighted by their stunning Semi-final victory over Achimota School and St. Peter’s SHS, both regional champions.
OWASS’s narrative this year is defined by decades of hunger. It has been 23 long years since their last national title, and every contest has brought them one step closer to breaking that cycle. At the heart of their story is Stephen Kofi Apemah Baah, a three-time contestant whose journey from Form One to this final year is the stuff of NSMQ legend. His calm brilliance, composure, and experience anchor the team’s ambition to finally bring the trophy home to Kumasi.

For Opoku Ware School, this finale is more than a competition. It is a pilgrimage; one last chance for Stephen to carve his name into NSMQ history and deliver long-awaited glory to his school and region.
The Question that Awaits
The nation waits, the contestants prepare, and the air crackles with expectation. Tomorrow, 6th November 2025, history will be written once again in Cape Coast, as Ghana witnesses the biggest academic showdown of the year.
When the final buzzer sounds tomorrow, one question will be answered:
who wears the crown?
Will Mfantsipim School affirm their dominance and keep the trophy in Cape Coast? Will St. Augustine’s College reclaim their lost glory and rise again before their home crowd?Or will Opoku Ware School, led by the indomitable Stephen, end two decades of waiting and take the trophy triumphantly back to Kumasi?
