NSMQ 2025: Suhum SHS Stuns Oyoko Methodist and Mfantsiman Girls’ to Qualify for One-eighth Stage

The fourth day of the Preliminary Stage of the National Championship saw Suhum SHS, Oyoko Methodist SHS, top runners-up from the Eastern Regional Qualifiers and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS battle it out for a slot in the One-eighth Stage.


Suhum Senior High School (SHS) secured a well-deserved spot in the One-eighth Stage with an impressive 57 points, edging out Oyoko Methodist SHS and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS.

The contest began at a slow pace, with all three schools measuring each other’s strength. At the end of Round One, Suhum SHS took the early lead with 16 points, while Oyoko Methodist SHS followed with 12 points. Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS, however, struggled to find their rhythm, finishing the round with negative two points.


In Round Two, the Trusturr AI Speed Race, Suhum SHS widened their lead, adding 18 points to reach 34. Oyoko Methodist SHS maintained steady progress with 17 points, while Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS recovered slightly, reducing their deficit to negative one point.

The Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star, also known as the Problem of the Day, brought out the best in all three schools as they each achieved a perfect score of 10 out of 10. Their precision impressed the audience and earned them GH₵2,000 apiece, courtesy of the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Award.


In Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True or False, Oyoko Methodist SHS and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS showed renewed determination, adding 13 and 10 points respectively. Oyoko Methodist SHS climbed to 40 points, while Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS reached 13 points. Suhum SHS remained composed and consistent, adding seven points to extend their total to 51 points.

The final round, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, proved decisive. Both Suhum SHS and Oyoko Methodist SHS answered two riddles correctly, earning six additional points each. Despite Oyoko’s valiant effort, Suhum SHS maintained their composure to secure victory with 57 points, leaving Oyoko Methodist SHS with 46 points and Mfantsiman Girls’ SHS with 19.


At the end of the contest, Suhum SHS celebrated their qualification to the One-eighth Stage of the National Championship.
