NSMQ 2025: Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary Silences Doubts with Resounding Win to Enter Quarter-final Stage

Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary entered the One-eighth Stage of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz as a seeded school, having reached the Quarter-final Stage last year. Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary determined to surpass last year’s performance, were set against Ghana SHS, Tamale, and Awudome SHS.

The contest kicked off with a burst of energy as supporters cheered their contestants and Quiz Mistress, Dr. Gladys Odey Schwinger, asked the students about their expectations. They all expressed confidence in winning, setting the stage for a heated competition.

Pope John SHS wasted no time, dominating the first round with 20 points, while Ghana SHS, Tamale, and Awudome SHS followed with 10 and eight points, respectively.

The “Trustur AI Speed Race” round saw Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary stretch their lead with remarkable determination, widening the gap to 40 points. This left Ghana SHS, Tamale with 14 points and Awudome SHS with 11 points.

The “Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Problem of the Day” brought a twist, as all schools underperformed. Ghana SHS, Tamale, solved the problem partially to earn four points, while  Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary and Awudome SHS made mistakes, and scored two points.

Ahead of the “JuPay Money Transfer True/False” round, Awudome SHS and Pope John SHS made tactical substitutions. They stole the spotlight by answering most questions correctly, earning loud cheers from their supporters. By the end of the round, Pope John SHS led with 52 points, followed by Ghana SHS, Tamale, with 25 points and Awudome SHS with 20 points.

In the “GOIL Riddle Bonanza” and final round of the contest, it became clear that Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary would be a tough opponent for its competitors. After correctly answering two of the four riddles, their score rose to 58 points. Ghana SHS, Tamale, and Awudome finished with 25 and 23 points, respectively.
