The Centre for National Culture Auditorium came alive once again as Osei Kyeretwie SHS (OKESS), Notre Dame Girls’ SHS, and Ghanata SHS faced off in one of the most intense preliminary contests of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The contest began on a calm, but charged note. Quiz Mistress, Dr. Gladys Odey Schwinger, warmly welcomed the schools and helped ease their nerves. Each team acknowledged the long and challenging journey to reach the National Championship and expressed confidence in their ability to progress to the next stage.

From the onset, it was clear that OKESS meant business. Round One saw them dominate with precision, amassing 24 points. Notre Dame Girls’ SHS followed with 13 points, while Ghanata SHS fell behind with seven points.

The energy in the auditorium surged during the “Trustur AI Speed Race,” where quick thinking and reflexes made all the difference. OKESS answered swiftly to finish the round with 20 points. Notre Dame Girls’ SHS and Ghanata SHS kept close behind with 15 points and 11 points, respectively.

The drive shifted in the “Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star” round, where Ghanata SHS showcased remarkable mathematical skill and calm under pressure. A minor error in numbering cost them a perfect score, but they still earned an additional nine points, bringing their total to 29 points. Notre Dame Girls’ SHS earned 20 points, followed by OKESS with 15 points.

The “JuPay True or False Round” saw schools take turns answering questions incorrectly. This caused gasps, sighs, and disappointment from the audience. OKESS, however, quickly gained poise and answered each question precisely. This saw them gain 32 points, followed closely by Notre Dame with 30 points. Ghanata SHS held on to 26 points.

Then came the “GOIL Riddle Bonanza”. OKESS buzzed in first, confidently answering the opening riddle correctly to a burst of cheers from their supporters. They attempted the second but missed, giving Ghanata SHS the chance to level up, which they seized gracefully. The third riddle stumped all three schools. Finally, Notre Dame Girls’ SHS picked up the last riddle, answered correctly, which raised their scores to 33 points, trailing closely behind OKESS.
