NSMQ 2025: Berekum Presby SHS Ends Eight-Year Wait with Commanding Victory

After eight years of absence from the National Championship, Berekum Presbyterian Senior High School made a stunning comeback at the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), edging out Bolgatanga SHS and T.I. AMASS, Salaga with an impressive 53 points to secure a spot in the One-eighth Stage.

The contest, moderated by Dr Thelma Ohene-Agyei, began with each school sharing their expectations. T.I. AMASS, Salaga expressed their excitement at appearing at the National Championship for the very first time, while Berekum Presby reflected on their long-awaited return after an eight-year hiatus. “It’s been eight years, and we are finally back,” they shared confidently before the contest began.

The opening round began at a slow pace, with Bolgatanga SHS taking an early lead with 14 points. Berekum Presby SHS followed with 10 points, while T.I. AMASS, Salaga trailed closely with eight points.

However, Berekum Presby SHS quickly turned the tide in the Trustur AI Speed Race, Round Two, adding 15 points to move up to 25, as Bolgatanga SHS lost four points, dropping to 10. T.I. AMASS, Salaga also slipped to five points.


The momentum continued in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star (Problem of the Day), where Berekum Presby SHS showcased remarkable problem-solving skills, earning nine out of 10 points. Bolgatanga SHS and T.I. AMASS, Salaga managed three points each.


Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True or False, cemented Berekum Presby’s dominance. They answered seven out of eight questions correctly to extend their lead to 47 points. Bolgatanga SHS followed with 20 points, while T.I. AMASS, Salaga trailed with 12.

The final round, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, sealed Berekum Presby’s victory as they confidently answered two riddles correctly to end with 53 points. Bolgatanga SHS picked one riddle to close at 23 points, while T.I. AMASS, Salaga finished with 12 points.

With this commanding performance, Berekum Presbyterian SHS marked their triumphant return to the National Championship after nearly a decade, a comeback that left the audience inspired and applauding their brilliance.
