The fifth episode of the Mentorship Sessions featured Emmanuel Afetorgbor, Global Head of Operations at Trustur AI. His presentation offered valuable insights into how artificial intelligence tools can be used effectively to support learning and help students develop practical solutions to everyday academic challenges. This aligned with the broader theme for the week, "Tech in Our Hands: Making the Most of Digital Tools, Including AI".

Right at the start of his session, he made it clear that STEM provides important opportunities for all students, not only those in science-related fields. According to him, the principles of STEM underpin solutions to most of the problems society faces.

“STEM is about finding the problems you have and getting solutions for them. STEM is not limited to only science students its for everyone that is willing to solve problems” He stated.

During the session, students actively shared the challenges they face and noted some potential solutions. Several students highlighted study difficulties related to certain science courses, particularly Chemistry and Physics. Addressing this, he explained that Trustur AI can significantly aid in studying, by allowing users to ask highly specific questions about confusing areas. Furthermore, students can reference the exact textbooks from which they require answers.

Mr Afetorgbor also advised students to disregard the belief that artificial intelligence threatens employment. He clarified that the primary role of AI is to simplify tasks, noting that individuals who become proficient in AI technologies are the ones who will thrive in the job market, especially as manual approaches to work gradually become outdated.

AI is not going to take over jobs. AI still needs human intervention. It is those who acquire AI skills that will dominate the job market in the future.” He stated.

He also urged students to use AI tools responsibly. He cautioned that students may become academically lazy if they rely on copying answers without attempting to understand the underlying concepts or asking follow-up questions to broaden their knowledge. He emphasised that using AI to deepen learning ultimately leads to a stronger grasp of the subject matter.

Mr. Afetorgbor's presentation concluded by advocating for students to view AI not as a shortcut, but as a powerful partner in their educational journey and future careers. By embracing both the problem-solving mindset of STEM and the skillset of AI utilization, students can overcome academic challenges and position themselves to lead in a technology-driven world.
