Battle of Regional Champions: Opoku Ware School Clinches GH₵9,080 and a Spot in Grand Finale!

Opoku Ware School has booked a place in the Grand Finale of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after defeating fellow Regional Champions, Achimota School and St Peter's SHS, with an impressive 48 points. Their outstanding performance also earned them a total cash prize of GH₵9,080.

The much-anticipated contest, dubbed “The Battle of Regional Champions’’, brought together three formidable schools: Opoku Ware School, Ashanti Regional Champions; St. Peter’s SHS, Eastern Regional Champions; and Achimota School, Greater Accra Regional Champions.
The competition began with all three schools showing strong determination in Round One. Opoku Ware School took an early lead by confidently answering questions and picking bonus questions, amassing 23 points. Achimota School followed with 14 points, while St. Peter’s trailed with four points.
Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, saw contestants proceed with caution to avoid penalties for wrong answers. Opoku Ware School added one point to reach 24, Achimota School maintained 14, and St. Peter’s SHS lost a point, dropping to three.

In Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star, Problem of the Day, which featured a Biology question, all three schools made commendable attempts. Opoku Ware School secured five points, while both Achimota School and St. Peter’s SHS earned three points each.
Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False tested contestants with True or False questions. The atmosphere in the hall intensified as Opoku Ware School extended their lead with precision, adding 13 points to reach 42. Achimota School followed with 27, and St. Peter’s SHS managed seven points. The round ended amid loud cheers from Opoku Ware supporters, who could already sense victory.

The final round, the GOIL Super Bonanza, provided an exciting climax. All three schools missed the first riddle, but St. Peter’s SHS picked the second, and Opoku Ware School correctly solved the third and final riddle to seal their place in the Grand Finale with 48 points.
With this convincing win, Opoku Ware School, popularly known as “Akatakyie,” advances to the NSMQ Grand Finale. They are set to face the reigning champions, Mfantsipim School and the 2024 Finalist, St. Augustine’s College, in what promises to be a thrilling battle of intellectual giants.
For their performance, Opoku Ware School received a total of GH₵9,080: GH₵1,200 for solving two riddles in the GOIL Super Bonanza, GH₵5,000 for winning the contest as the Pepsodent Highest Scorer Award, and GH₵2,880 from the MoMo Money Zone. St. Peter’s SHS earned GH₵1,200, while Achimota School walked away with GH₵1,620 from the MoMo Money Zone.
