NSMQ 2026: Labone SHS Kicks Out Koforidua Sectech and St. Francis Xavier Jnr. Seminary to Reach Quarter-finals Stage!

Main Auditorium - August 27, 2026 The One-eighth Stage continued with another upset as Labone Senior High School held its nerve to defeat seeded Koforidua Secondary Technical School and St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary, securing a place in the Quarter-final Stage of the 2026 National Science & Maths Quiz.


Building on last year’s impressive run, Labone SHS delivered a strong performance to finish ahead of its opponents and knock Koforidua Secondary Technical School out of the competition, ending the seeded school’s campaign at the One-eighth Stage.

The contest, which formed part of Day Two of the One-eighth Stage, produced an early lead for Labone SHS, who maintained their advantage through all five rounds to finish with 44 points. St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary placed second with 28 points, while Koforidua Secondary Technical School ended the contest with 20 points.

In Round One, General Questions, Labone SHS opened proceedings with 15 points, four points ahead of Koforidua Secondary Technical School, who had 11 points. St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary started with five points.

Labone SHS extended its lead considerably in Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, reaching 26 points. St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary improved with eight points, while Koforidua Secondary Technical School moved with 10 points.

The gap widened further in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star, Problem of the Day. Labone SHS moved with 28 points after securing two additional points, while St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary reached 18 points after earning 10 points from the round. Koforidua Secondary Technical School remained with 10 points.

Despite trailing in the overall contest, St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary produced a notable moment in the round by winning the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star prize for solving the Problem of the Day. The prize was worth GH¢2,400.

Labone SHS strengthened its position in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False, taking its score to 44 points. St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary had 25 points, while Koforidua Secondary Technical School recorded 11 points. Labone SHS also won the Jupay Clean Sheet, receiving GH¢700 after successfully navigating the round.

In the final Round Five, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, Labone SHS maintained its 44 point tally to secure the overall victory. St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary finished on 28 points, while Koforidua Secondary Technical School ended on 20 points. The final result sparked loud cheers from Labone supporters in the contest hall as they celebrated the school’s qualification for the quarter-final stage. The players acknowledged the support, and excitement around the school grew once the result was confirmed.

Koforidua Secondary Technical School, was unable to maintain its seed. The school, however, secured a consolation moment in the final round by winning the GOIL Riddle Bonanza after answering three riddles correctly, earning GH¢1,200. The Round-by-Round Scores for this contest stood as follows: ROUND ONE: General Questions

  • Koforidua Secondary Technical School:  11 points
