NSMQ 2025: Sunyani SHS Secures Victory Into One-eighth Stage!

Auditorium 900 – October 21, 2025


Excitement rippled through Auditorium 900 as the second contest of the day kicked off. With cheers echoing and hopes running high, Sunyani SHS, Akro SHTS, and Tsito SHTS prepared for a thrilling battle of minds in the National Championship of the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

It was a moment of pride and history for Akro SHTS, who made their debut appearance at the National Championship. The Eastern Region-based school received a rousing welcome, with the quiz mistress, Dr Anita Oppong, acknowledging their debut, a gesture that was met with thunderous applause. A tribute to the resilience and dedication it took to make it this far.

Round One started fiercely. Sunyani SHS showed early dominance with 16 points, while Akro SHTS were hot on their heels with 15 points. Tsito SHTS, though spirited, managed five points.


In Round Two, the “Trustur AI Speed Race” evolved into a thrilling duel between Sunyani SHS and Akro SHTS. The newcomers stunned the crowd with quick buzzes and confident answers, earning loud cheers with every correct response. Yet Sunyani SHS held firm, ending the round with 27 points, followed by Akro SHTS with 18 points and Tsito SHTS with four points.

Round Three, the 'Prudential Life NSMQ Star', demanded deep reasoning and teamwork as contestants tackled the Problem of the Day. Sunyani SHS earned seven points. Akro scored three and Tsito two, all out of 10.


In Round Four, the “Jupay Money Transfer True/False” segment, saw all three schools perform admirably, displaying solid understanding of core scientific principles and pushing the energy in the hall to new heights.


Then came the final round, packed with tension, loud cheers and anticipation. Supporters of Akro SHTS roared with hope, but disappointment struck when their team couldn’t crack the last riddle. Still, their performance remained commendable.

At the buzzer, Sunyani SHS sealed victory with 56 points, Akro SHTS earned an impressive 40 points, and Tsito SHTS finished with 22.

Having qualified for the One-eighth Stage last year but falling short, Sunyani SHS returns with fire in their hearts, ready to finish what they started.
