NSMQ 2025: Simms SHS Secures a Spot in the One-eighth Stage

Simms Senior High School has advanced to the One-eighth Stage of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after triumphing over Kofi Agyei SHTS and Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ SHS, a new entrant in the competition, with 36 points.

The contest began on a steady note, with Simms SHS taking an early lead in the first round, amassing 22 points. Kofi Agyei SHTS and Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ SHS, however, struggled to get off the mark, ending the round without any points.

In Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, Kofi Agyei SHTS found their rhythm, adding eight points to bring their total to 15 as they attempted to close the gap. Simms SHS, meanwhile, extended their lead to 23 points, while Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ SHS had a tough round, losing points for incorrect responses and dropping to negative three.

Redemption came for the debutants in Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star (Problem of the Day), where Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ SHS earned six out of ten points, clearing their deficit and moving to three points. Simms SHS and Kofi Agyei SHTS both managed three points each in this round.

The intensity rose in Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False, as the auditorium came alive with excitement. Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ SHS showed renewed confidence, adding 13 points to reach 16, while Simms SHS maintained their composure, adding 10 points to climb to 36. Kofi Agyei SHTS followed with 10 points.

The final round, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, saw Kofi Agyei SHTS make a last-minute push by correctly answering two riddles, but it was not enough to overtake Simms SHS, who held on to their lead despite not scoring in this round. The contest ended with Simms SHS at 36 points, Kofi Agyei SHTS at 25 points, and Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ SHS at 16 points.

Simms SHS’s consistent performance throughout the contest earned them a place in the One-eighth Stage of the National Championship.
