NSMQ 2025: KNUST SHS Advances to the One-eighth Stage

The first day of the Preliminary Stage of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), of the National Championship, commenced at the SGS Auditorium with an exciting opening contest featuring KNUST Senior High School, Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ Senior High School, and Wovenu Senior High Technical School, a new entrant to the Championship.
The contest began in a calm and hopeful atmosphere, with contestants from all three schools expressing optimism about their chances of victory.

In the first round, Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS took an early lead with 22 points, while both
KNUST SHS and Wovenu SHTS followed closely with 16 points each.

In Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, quickly shifted the momentum of the competition. Wovenu SHTS displayed impressive reflexes, picking up the second and third questions in quick succession. However, KNUST SHS soon found their rhythm, answering confidently to overtake their contenders and finish the round in the lead with 24 points. Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS came close with 23 points, while Wovenu SHTS trailed slightly behind with 19 points.

In Round Three, known as the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star (Problem of the Day), KNUST SHS scored six points out of ten. Wovenu SHTS scored four points, while Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS, despite initially earning four points, forfeited them for breaching the rules by writing their answers before being prompted.
The fourth Round also known as Jupay Money Transfer Round saw KNUST SHS maintaining their dominance with 43 points, followed by Wovenu SHTS with 36 points and Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS with 30 points.
In the fifth and final round, the GOIL Riddle Bonanza, KNUST SHS added three points to their score. Wovenu SHTS also earned three points, while Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS made a late push, securing six points to end the contest.
At the end of the contest, KNUST SHS emerged victorious with 46 points, securing qualification to the next stage of the competition. Wovenu SHTS and Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS both finished with 36 points each. The contest was moderated by Dr Thelma Ohene-Agyei.
