NSMQ 2025: GSTS Topples Eight-time Champions PRESEC to Reach the Semi-finals!

The second contest of the Quarter-final Stage of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz brought together Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Our Lady of Grace SHS, and Ghana Secondary Technical School. In a surprising outcome, GSTS eliminated the eight-time champions, PRESEC, to advance to the next stage.

At the start of the contest, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) gained early momentum by picking up several bonus points, drawing loud cheers from their supporters. Their confident start set a lively tone for the competition. By the end of Round One, PRESEC and Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) were level on 16 points, while Our Lady of Grace SHS followed closely with 13 points.


In Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, the contest grew even more intense. The atmosphere inside the auditorium was charged with anticipation, every ring of the bell commanding silence as the audience awaited each response. The three schools matched each other question for question, keeping the crowd on edge. When the round ended, PRESEC held the lead with 24 points, trailed by Our Lady of Grace SHS with 21 points, while GSTS followed with 18 points.

At the end of Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Problem of the Day, Presbyterian Boys Secondary School earned four points, Ghana Secondary Technical School followed with two, while Our Lady of Grace SHS failed to score any of the ten available points.


Going into Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True/False round, PRESEC made a tactical change, substituting Kekeli with John. The decision proved timely, as John’s confident responses helped the team regain momentum. The round was fiercely contested, with all three schools displaying sharp reasoning and composure, much to the delight of the audience.


When the round concluded, PRESEC maintained their lead with 38 points. Ghana Secondary Technical School stayed within reach with 30 points, while Our Lady of Grace SHS followed closely with 28 points.

In the fifth and final round, the GOIL Super Bonanza, tension filled the auditorium as all three schools listened attentively to the riddles that would decide who advanced to the Semi-finals.

In a stunning twist, Ghana Secondary Technical School answered three riddles in succession, mounting an impressive comeback to secure their place in the Semi-finals by a single point ahead of the eight-time champions, PRESEC. The GSTS boys also claimed the GOIL Super Bonanza award worth GH₵1,600 after their brilliant performance..

At the end of the contest, Ghana Secondary Technical School led with 39 points, Presbyterian Boys Secondary School followed closely with 38 points and Our Lady of Grace SHS finished off with 28 points.
