Mankranso SHS Shakes the Giants: Historic Win Over Ghana National College and St Thomas Aquinas!

In their maiden Quarter-final appearance, Mankranso Senior High School pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz National Championship, eliminating Ghana National College and St. Thomas Aquinas SHS to book a historic place in the Semi-final Stage.
The contest began on a calm note, with anticipation building among the audience as all three schools grappled with the first set of questions. None of the teams managed a perfect start, as Round One proved challenging for all. Ghana National College eventually found their rhythm and took an early lead with 14 points, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas SHS with 10 points, while Mankranso SHS trailed closely behind with eight points.

In the “Trustur AI Speed Race”, tension filled the hall as contestants buzzed in quickly but missed several questions. Each wrong answer drew sighs of disappointment from the audience. By the end of the round, all three schools were tied at 10 points. Mankranso SHS managed to increase by two points, Aquinas maintained their score, while Ghana National College lost four points.

The Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Round featured a biology Problem of the Day, testing each school’s analytical skills. All three schools managed to partially solve the question, earning six out of a possible ten points each.
Ghana National College bounced back strongly in the JuPay Money Transfer True or False Round, answering all but one question correctly. Their supporters erupted in cheers as they ended the round in the lead with 29 points. Mankranso SHS kept the pressure on with 26 points, while St. Thomas Aquinas SHS followed with 23 points.

The GOIL Super Bonanza Round proved decisive. St. Thomas Aquinas SHS opened strongly with the first correct riddle, but Mankranso SHS remained calm and confident, swiftly solving the next two riddles to seize control of the contest. None of the schools managed to crack the final riddle, and when the bell rang, Mankranso SHS emerged victorious with 32 points.
It was a defining moment in the school’s NSMQ journey, a triumph years in the making. Their resilience, teamwork and focus earned them a well-deserved place in the Semi-final Stage for the very first time. Ghana National College followed closely with 29 points, while St. Thomas Aquinas SHS finished with 26 points.
For their exceptional effort, Mankranso SHS and St. Thomas Aquinas SHS received the GOIL Super Bonanza Award of FGH₵1,000 and GH₵500 respectively, marking the end of a contest that will long be remembered as one of Mankranso’s finest moments.
